Found in many period paintings and illuminations this style of purse is simple and decorative. Made of soft, supple black calf skin. It is a “Turn Purse” meaning there is no gusset to give the bag extra width, the two panels of the purse are stitched smooth side to smooth side then the bag is “turned” inside out putting the seam on the interior of the purse. The purse sports pewter purse flap decorations that serve as both adornment and as weight to help keep the flaps flat against the body of the purse. The lacing that closes the top of the purse as well as the cutout in the belt loops are both historically correct. The purse is kept closed by a period pewter buckle and the strap is fitted with a period strap end. The purse will fit up to a 2 inch belt.
